CERTAIN UNCERTAINTIES

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into several months, and here I am, still contemplating on what my first medium post would be about.

Happy birthday Favour. Just incase you’re wondering who Favour is, that would be me.

I’ve probably always lived a life of optimism while growing up, as I heard over a countless time, that it was okay to reach for the stars. Each time this was said, they would exclude the fact that the distance between the stars and surface of the earth is one journey that would take forever.

If only I had forever!

They say you begin to panic with every new age and I find myself to be inside of that very panic mode most of the time based on several experiences. One of which is recent, for a period of time, which really took a huge toll on me. The feeling of helplessness enveloped me so much that I couldn’t help but feel depressed on some days. Luckily for me, I had more pressing issues to be worried about than sulking about my mental health. Call it a needed distraction.

There’s no denying the fact that aging comes with lots of uncertainty and even though we’re told to take our time, like they always say,

Take your time, there’s no need to rush. We all have different races. It’s not a matter of how fast, but how well.

I beg to differ. Of course it’s not a race but it’s a question of how quick you can be, to do well in pressing situations. The bitter truth of this is that, these same people giving you these “needed advice” would still be the very same people to ask you questions like these,

What have you been doing with your time?

Where were you when your mates were working hard to earn a living for themselves?

Then it dawns on you that, you’ve been stuck holding on to empty hopes and dreams that was built on some fortune cookie advice.

What an oxymoronic title, you might think but why not? When all life does, is to contradict itself. I mean, who would have thought that life would be this tough when all we were created for was to lead a happy life.

Right now, I’m being faced with several questions that I do not have answers to and the thoughts of leaving them unanswered, triggers a paralyzing effect on me. Another state of helplessness.

I wrote this piece about two years ago,

Right now, I still choose to live, and not just survive. I hope you do too.

Finally, I have an answer to this question.

What is your biggest fear?

Feeling helpless, that’s my biggest fear.

It’s my birthday today and my only wish is to lead a real happy life.
